DHET’s official register lists Akademia’s approved campus sites (A–D) and which qualifications run in contact vs distance mode at each address. For Pretoria/Centurion, the four listed addresses are 284 Von Willich Ave (A), 117 Gerhard St (B), 245 End St (C), and 115 Gerhard St (D). Where a programme is marked [B] [C] [D], it indicates contact delivery on those Centurion sites.
Akademia Private University Pretoria - A New Residential Campus (opening planned for 2028)
Location: Pretoria East along Boschkop Road, about 8 km from Solomon Mahlangu Drive (M10). The site will consolidate Akademia’s current Centurion facilities into a single, purpose-built campus.
Opening target: 2028 (project announced 2024/2025).
Scale & capacity: Designed for ~5,000 undergraduate and ~1,500 postgraduate students once fully ramped.
Residences: Plans include multiple on-campus residences (media reports mention separate men’s and women’s residences, with initial references to four of each in the first phase).
Academic & student facilities (planned):
- Lecture halls, laboratories, research spaces, library, auditorium, student centre, cafeteria, and restaurants/coffee shops.
- World-class sports facilities (rugby, cricket, netball, tennis, athletics, hockey, swimming, plus indoor sports).
- An experimental farm is planned for Natural Sciences & Agriculture.
Developer & model: The campus is being developed by Kanton (Solidarity Movement’s property arm); Akademia will lease the campus from Kanton.
Why a single residential campus? Consolidation supports a traditional campus experience in Afrikaans, while maintaining Akademia’s nationwide evening/interactive centres for distance students.
