Barnard spent 20 years as a member of the musical duo ‘Marimba’ who enjoyed much acclaim for their musical renditions of well-known Afrikaans poets like Eugene Marais and Ingrid Jonker. They were regarded as ‘baanbrekers’ in their unique cross-over sound, and released four albums.
