The Ideal Clinic Programme - South Africa’s national standard for evaluating primary healthcare facilities - measures clinics against a stringent set of criteria. These include infrastructure quality, staffing levels, medicine availability, governance, infection control, cleanliness, and overall patient flow and efficiency. To earn Platinum Status, clinics must score at least 80%, a threshold considered demanding even for well-resourced facilities.
According to MMC for Health, Tshegofatso Mashabela, Tshwane’s results demonstrate unwavering dedication from healthcare workers, clinic managers, and local leadership. Mashabela noted that this collective effort has set a new expectation for excellence in the metro, where even the lowest-scoring clinic, Danville Clinic, achieved 80.44%, comfortably within the Platinum category. “This shows that excellence is no longer the exception in Tshwane healthcare, but the standard,” she said.
Among the standout performers for 2025 are the metro’s top five clinics: Doornpoort Clinic (94.17%), Laudium Clinic (93.27%), Karenpark Clinic (93.18%), Eldoraigne Clinic (92.22%), and Nellmapius Clinic (92.20%). These facilities exemplify leading performance in service delivery and operational efficiency.
